”The basis of our government being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate for a moment to prefer the latter."
This is a subject that is dear to my heart. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in the Humanities with a depth field in Journalism, and I spent 20 years in the military as a Navy Journalist. I then spent three years working as a public affairs specialist for a 70,000 plus city near Los Angeles, and now I am employed by the Marine Corps as a Writer/Editor and Public Affairs Specialist.

”...our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost."
-- Thomas Jefferson, 1786
from a letter written to James Curie
"The First Amendment, a covenant between the government and the people, assures that no law will suppress the people's right to a free press, to speak freely, to worship, to assemble in public or to petition the government for redress of grievances. By assuring a free flow of information, the First Amendment helps ensure that Americans remain forever free."
